On October 27th 2021, a group of DCU MSc in Digital Marketing and MSc in E-Commerce students attended the Hack-A-Town event in Gorey, Co.Wexford. This event was run in conjunction with Wexford County Council.
In Gorey, the students participated in a hackathon. A hackathon is a timed event which the students were put into teams to work together to come up with innovative and creative solutions to implement in Gorey town.
Students drew on ideas from smart cities across the world to design and create digital solutions which could be used in Gorey town. The aim of these solutions was to use digital technologies solve a problem within the town and help the citizens of Gorey.
The students were given time to explore Gorey town to visualise and identify where their solutions could be implemented in the town.
Each student team presented their ideas to a panel of judges from Wexford County Council and the Irish Institution of Digital Business (IIDB). The students presented a number of amazing ideas everything from creating solutions for repurposing rain water solutions to automatic street coverings for when it rains.
From all the amazing ideas, there could only be one winning team!
